Check the casting number on the block. If you send it to me in a message or an email I will look it up for you. I have a book with some of the casting numbers in it. Maybe I can help. You will not be able to tell what motor it is by the firing order.

measure the stroke or on the emission sticker (yellow sticker on valve cover) And there's not really anything wrong with a 351M or 400. The carbs are holley which need to be changed to weber (edelbrock sells them), or willey's if you have big bucks. Also, they were bad on cranks at 100K. I think it's because of the angle of the stroke, it is said that you can cross-drill the crank on the journals but I'm skeptical....Just throw in a new crank and run it another 100K. Decent motors, just a flaw in the lower end. Good luck. Mine got 20MPG when I rebuilt it and had 3.50 gears on 16.5" tires.

one quick way i tell if i know the year of the vehicle is that the upper radiator hose connects to the front of the "block", not to the intake, but you don't know if its a modified or a 400 and depending on what you are looking for that would make a big difference. type in "difference between 351m and 351w".

you buy a friggin book on big blocks or go online to auto zone and look up tune-up information after writing down the firing order check it to the firing order on you intake. or finally, touch it...if it's a 351 cleveland you'll feel the energy just waiting to be let loose. :)

it will use gas just sitting there. have had 2. on the positive side....be glad it aint a 400.
