I may possibly get a standard for my first car but im wondering if you thought it was hard. most people ive asked said it was fairly easy but i have driven with my sister in her standard car, and she constantly stalled the car haha it was pretty embarassing. Hopefully it doesnt run in the family!! :-X

A manual transmission is very easy, once you get moving from a stop. Operating the clutch from a dead stop is the hardest part.

Wanna practice?
Practice with the car engine off and the parking brake on.
Practice clutching and shifting through gears. Then try it with the engine on.

Most people make driving a standard much harder than it needs to be. Thats why they give up. They fear of failure.

Just practice in an open area where you can relax and not worry about running into anything.

If the car stalls out so what. It's just like learning how to walk when you were little. You took a few falls while walking and it soon became second nature. You take a few stalls with a clutch and soon it will be smooth and second nature.

I miss driving a stick.

It's not the driving that is difficult, it is the shifting of it. LOL! I had little problems learning it. What's fun is learn to shift w/o the clutch. You will learn to listen to the motor then and not rely on the dash to tell you when to shift. But if you've been driving a shift and then drive an automatic, LOOK OUT! Your left foot may go thru the floorboard.

Good Luck

Piece of cake with frosting. Automatics are great for city driving but only a stick/standard on the open road will do. Listening to the engine and feeling the gears talk to you is magic. Peace.

All it takes is a little practice. I was driving a standard shift at 9 years old. (I grew up in the country)

i wouldn't say that it is hard but awkward.. you just have to practice.. you are more nervous than any thing because you don't want to stall or start jerking when taking off because you'll think everyone is laughing.. Oh and don't forget the inclines and rolling backwards that was the hardest thing for me to get use to... just practice and you'll get the hang of it... Good Luck!!!

No, i think it was really easy. Also, I have had some friends that learned to drive them that weren't very technologically minded, so I think about anyone can learn. I love driving manuals myself. I think they are more fun and they are proven (generally) to be better on gas as well.
