Is it proper or does it make sense for an AA Group to vote that Only Home Group Members May Celebrate Annual Sobriety Anniversarys at that the Monthly Anniversary Meeting? Shouldn't ANY active member be allowed to celebrate regardless of group affiliation? I think that is excluding people am I wrong? I am desparate for an answer because I have been told I cannot celebrate my seven year anniversary because I am not a home group member.

Hi Kevin,Rensereader, alocholic addict here! I am familiar with your delima , some home groups that have been together for a long time may tend to get somewhat clickish when it comes time to pass out the chips for sobriety . First let me ask you if you are planning on making this group your home group?Second, let me assure you that you not only are allowed to disclose your 7-years of sobriety , you must disclose it, so here's what you should do to keep the peace and their pecking order in tact. When the time comes for the anniversity coins to be presented , don't speak out, stay quiet until the end where someone will say( and this always is said)"are there any other alcoholics who are celebrating an anniviversary tonight"? Boom, that's when you stand up and make your declaration about being clean for the big 7! As a recovering alcoholic it is not only allowed , it is required , of you to do so. After you have made your statement consider letting the group know your intensions regarding their group becoming your home group, this is not something for them to decide, this is your decision exclisiusivly. If you are considering it, now would be the time to do it eiither way, If this home group is like most, they might be sensative to your delima and surprise you, but not to worry , if they don't, your time will come, and you must do it! By the way brother Congradulations and keep coming back, it works if you work it, and your worth it!
