I personally like to let my vehicle warm up for 2 or 3 minutes before driving, especially in cold weather. I feel it lets the fluids circulate and get to all the bearings in the engine and (automatic) transmission, before you start putting everything under a "load". In very cold weather, (like 30*F and colder), I also drive my vehicle slow and pokey for a couple miles to let the fluids warm up and circulate better. Most automotive fluids thicken as they get colder, and I think they need to warm and thin out a little to help protect components. If you want to try an experiment, put a cup-full of engine oil or Automatic Transmission fluid in the your freezer overnight, and see how thick it is the next morning, it'll hardly pour! JMHO, HTH!!

depends on where you live... if you live where things have a tendency to freeze, especially in the winter... you'll want to warm up the car first. You warm up the oil which lubes the pistons which makes driving easier. if you live where it's warm all the time, that's not a problem.

Read the owner's manual, but most of them say to just drive, but not to run the car hard until it's warmed up.

Experts say to start driving immediately. However, you should drive GENTLY until your car is up to normal running temp.

Racing down the street with a cold engine will damage it, as the oil does not circulate well when cold, especially when it's VERY cold outside.

Warming it up wastes gas needlessly.

I think older cars really need to warm up. Newer cars can stand up to the abuse a little bit better.

If it's really cold outside, warm your car up a bit. If it's not, there's no need to warm it up or you'll just be wasting precious gas.

You will be wasting gas if you let your car sit out and warm up - and with the cost of gas, ever minute counts. I don't think it will make a huge difference to let your car warm up. :)

You don't have to warm it up, just don't race the engine when taking off.
