wife, mother inlaw, sister inlaw smoke while on it.key board looks like filth. told them why it is breaking down. they just don't care.help needed short of divorce plus i need her to use it for my work. can't take it away.

Cigarette smoke coats everything in the room, including all the electronics sitting in your monitor and computer. I'd recommend divorce! ;)
No, but seriously, it shortens the life of electronics and a lot of repair places won't touch it or will charge you more (without letting you know) when the cigarette residue is clogging everything.
It comes down to money, if nothing else. Then again, I'm betting they're spending a lot more on cigarettes than on anything else, so maybe they don't care about the money.
If she's a loving wife she should listen if you take her concerns to her nicely - not sure what to do if she doesn't, but it's certainly not a good thing. Maybe put away money at the same rate she's spending it on cigarettes, buy a new computer, and make it yours.

Start learning to clean your keyboard and also I recommend that you buy an extra one. Of course, you cannot get rid of them, so just clean your system.
Also search on Internet regarding for a 'healthy' system and show to them the advantages of not to be near at computer when smoking/eating...
