It seems that the reason many people give for not making some things illegal is that these things are going to happen anyway. This doesn't make much sense to me....but what do you think?

I think that some laws are good to have. No murder, no stealing no raping, no child molesting.
We do not need laws like. No drugs, no guns, you have to wear your seat belt and laws that have no direct bearing on anyone but the individual.
If I smoke crack, I do not hurt you. The act of possessing and smoking crack is not dangerous to anyone but myself. Thus it has no place being illegal.

"People are going to do that anyway" really means "it's none of the goverments f***ing business if people do that".
This response is almost exclusively given to questionable legislation that involves attempting to control people for no obvious benefit other than to placate the sensibilities of some group, such as sodomy laws, blue laws, drug laws, etc., where the action itself need not cause anyone harm if done responsibly.

You make a good point. If we legalize everything that 'people will do anyway', the result is anarchy. That was the point most of the answers seem to miss, wasn't it?

It`s nothing more than a money game or scam and is getting worse every day ! If they do away with a law----(THEY) lose money !!
