Actually, Pittsburgh DOES have a professional basketball team. They are called the Pittsburgh Xplosion, and they play in the ABA league. Granted, it's not an NBA team, but it is as close as you can get for a fan in Pittsburgh.

They play many of their games in Mellon Arena as well.

Could it be because the fans are not interested in having one. Also, in the old ABA there was the Pittsburgh Pipers who won that league's first championship. They were led by Connie Hawkins (the man whom Dr. J patterned some of his game after.

the person above me is very uneducated and needs to go back to school.

anyway, pittsburgh does need a basketball team. but then that means we need a team in the west. which will probably be San diego.

It's because the NBA already has the Philadelphia 76ers, and Pittsburgh is in Philadelphia so you know what I'm sayin...
