The Tazmanian Devil (Gattuso) would have taken off his pants and done the wild monkey dance!!! And then he would have serenated Zidane with

Zidane would have a red card, like in the 1998 world cup.
Gattuso would have had the intelligence to not retaliate 5 minutes from the end of extra time.
Italy won. No sense refocusing the final on a small incident.

I dont think Gattuso would have said such nasty things to Zidane, he doesnt seem like that type of player, where as Materazzi is known for being malevolent.
If it did happen, I think mortal combat would have pursued on the football pitch. Gattuso would have thrown him a sharp left, Zidane would have then put his knee is Gattuso's guts. Both teams would have rushed in by then try to break up the fight. Henry and Materazzi would have ended up going at it. I think other players would have their hands full fly kicking each other and throwing lunging punchs ( Maxi Rodriguez style). I think after a while the fight would have ended, peace restored, and they would have continued playing.

I don't think Gattuso would have fallen down.
Honestly.
I think Zidane would have terribly damaged his head if this was the case. And he'd probably have fallen down!
And Gattuso would have responded... unless Pirlo had a chance to hold him back.

Gattuso is shorter so the head butt would have caught his head rather than chest.
Gattuso's head would have knocked some sense into Zidane and Zidane would have fallen over :-)

Impossible to know if it even would have happened unless you think that Gattuso's mouth is as foul as Materazzi's.
