When I came back home, I found that my mailbox had been left unlocked. Everybody else got their mail, but my box was empty. I'm sure it was stolen. I'm very concerned about identity theft :/

I would call the postoffice and find out.

But with identity theft it isn't a matter of if it will happen to you, it is more of a matter of when. It is the fastest growing crime in the US. A year ago I didn't know anyone who had been the victim of ID Theft, today I know 4.

I think it is important to protect yourself no matter how careful you are.

I suggest this service for protection. You get a credit report to see if it has happened.

You get credit monitoring to let you know if it happens. This way you know right away if it happens so you can minimize your loss.

But the best part is if it happens to you you are assigned a licensed investigator to handle every aspect of the Restoration!

The FTC says it can take 600 hours and thousands of dollars to correct the problems.

It is horrible to fix.

Yes they will still deliver your mail. If you are concerned about identity theft, your best bet is to get a post office box, that way only you can get into it. Hope this helps.

No, standard policy is to remove all the mail from the box and bring it back to the office if the customer has left their apartment box unlocked. Contact the post office and ask if your Letter Carrier brought back your mail.

Yeah they can leave mail in unlocked mail boxes. That's the reason stealing mail is a federal offense.

Most people around here just have mail boxes out on the curve.

Yes, my mailbox does not have a lock and is in a public place. I live in an apartment. Nothing better than coming home and finding 50 credit card offers that anyone could pick up and sign up for in my name.
