Will we feel a shake of some sort, will buildings fall down, or something? Its a really neat idea, but I want to know if it will even make a dent.

It is a great idea, but it won't be Earth shaking...you have more of a chance of hearing a squirrel sneeze in a tree 10 miles away then feel any effect from this.

It won't make a difference. Everytime you step you put a force on the earth. The force is so small though it doesn't have a visable effect. Even with the collective force of millions of people jumping the earth is not going to show signs of the effect. This is especially true if people are jumping from all over the earth because if by chance there is an effect from all the jumpers in the US then it will be negated by all the jumpers in Asia who are jumping on the other side of the world.

Well, let's think:

The mass of the Earth is 5.9742 × 10^24 kilograms. Assuming everyone on the Earth jumps at once, we'd have 6 billion or 6 x 10^9 people jumping. Let's also assume that everyone weighs about 100 kilograms (which is far more that the average weight, mind you). Now, assume that everybody jumps with a very high velocity of 10 meters per second.

This would amount to a net change in velocity for the Earth of (100 kilograms * 10 meters/second * 6 x 10^9)/5.9742 x 10^24 kilograms = 1.0043 x 10^-12 meters/second. In other words, the velocity of the Earth wouldn't change more than one thousandth of a nanometer per second.

no, the guy that came up with that isnt' even a real professor like he says. anyway, not that many people will jump. everyone will forget by the time it rolls around. they will remember, "oh crap, i forgot to do that jump thing" while they are going to sleep that night.
