Yep, as the previous answerer said, you can't collect unemployment because you quit. You are entitled to 12 weeks under the Family & Medical Leave Act (something like that at least) for a newborn or an illness. Your company cannot fire you but be sure that you let them know exactly what is going on and when. You can only collect unemployment if you are "let go" and that does not mean fired (fired is for being late, peeing on the bosses desk, etc).

Why would you have to quit your job because of a surgery? Your doctor should be putting you on leave and then you can apply for disability. then after you are released by your doctor, you can return to work without issue!
Good luck with your surgery, job and everything!

BTW..disability should be for a year's time if needed.

if your having your surgery because of the job (like on the job accident) then you can get workman's comp. But if you quit you cant get unemployment. Only if you were fired. But getting fired looks bad on the resume or who will you get the reference from for the next job?

You can't get unemployment if you quit on your own. You may want to call your state department and ask if you would be eligible for disability. You may even want to ask your employer if they let you take a leave.
