Yep, I believe that to be mostly correct. Oceania are not ranked highly and with reason. The games aren't either and are not awarded as many points, I have learnt. Seeing as the rankings are done over the past 4 yrs, if anything we may have ended up 30 and not 33. But hey we are cool with that, we rose from 42 to 33 so we are happy little Vegemite's.

Current ranking (post WC) around Australia are below.
31 Tunisia 805
32 Greece 780
33 Australia 738
The potential maximum points for Australia for the WC Final match were (say aginst brazil ranked 1):
Result: Win 3 points
Importance of match: 4
Strength of opponent: Brazil 2
Regional strength: Oceania 0.85
Period: Current year 1
This gives about 20 points per game. Three games at say 20 points each say 50-60 points and we may have scrapped in ahead of Greece the team we beat this year :-).
We need to play more games to earn points -roll on the Asian confederation :-)

ya they would be in the same standing as ther are in now if the won the cup it's a faulty ranking system.
