While file sharing, in itself is legal, downloading or sharing copyrighted files which you do not hold the copyright for is illegal. You'll probably only get a cease and decist if you share, but if you want to be completely safe, don't touch anything with a copyright using limewire or any P2P software.

Downloading music for free on it is illegal.
If you are looking for a good music site, I always recommend iTunes. I know you have to pay for everything you download, but for me it's worth it because the quality is always perfect and it is easy to use. I used Kazaa for free, and I got a bunch of viruses from it and had to wipe my whole hard drive. I had a friend that had the same thing happen with limewire... :(

LimeWire itself is not illegal. It can be a very useful file sharing tool. However, it is illegal to transfer copywrited material (like most songs) using any file sharing program unless you have a licence for that material.

The program itself is legal. Using the program is legal. Downloading things with the program is legal. Using the program to share copyrighted works - ILLEGAL. Turn off sharing and you are fine. For now.

The program is not illegal, but ANY copyrighted material you download, without paying for is illegal.
But no one cares, and I download loads of music.........lol

no becuz you aren't downloading from one server like from napster; you are downloading from other people's pc that have that file you are tryin to download...
