I had my tubes tied just over 3 years ago. I have had extremely heavy periods since to the point that I am thinking about going on the shot or the pill just to regulate.
I have been having tons of health problems that I didn't think anything about until I found a website about Post Tubal Syndrome. Some women never have any problems and some have nothing but problems.Talk to your Dr. Although most never mention any of the side effects of the tubal.
I am including a website to help you make a well informed decision. The best advice I have is to do alot of research before you decide what could affect the rest of your life.
Good Luck!

Hi, Not everything is fool proof. I had a tubal ligation after my sons birth 26 years ago. It was done in a Renowned Boston Hospital. 10 years later I was pregnant with an ectopic pregnancy.
The fetus was forming on my Ovary. The sperm had found its way through the Fallopian tube that was supposed to be cauterized shut, and fertilized the egg right there and because the egg could not find its way to my uterus, It started to develop where it lay, just on my ovary.
I was rushed into major surgery because I started to bleed. and the Dr. took the egg mass. Then he re-tied my tubes and it have been almost 20 years and I just have some extra cramps on that side when I have my period.
Now that I am going through menopause those cramps have subsided. AND, I AM NOT DEAD YET!

I've been on OrthoTricyclen (the pill), have used condoms with my husband, and I currently have an IUD. I love the IUD...it's been a year since I had it in, and so far so good. :) They got a bad rap in the 1970s...and justly so. They really did cause infections, irregular bleeding, etc. Like most other things that have been around for years, they've been improved. Here's an answer I gave yesterday on my opinion of IUDs: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/;_ylt=Ag9mpgSL7TgS0HYdh2LfRxrsy6IX?qid=20060717185653AA7wrFa

I can't give you an answer about having a tubal ligation, as I've never had one. I do know that it is major surgery, and it's usually best to avoid elective surgery if you can. :) If you end up delivering via c-section, might not be a bad way to go since you're already open on the table. Otherwise, I'd opt for something else. Like all other birth control methods, a tubal ligation isn't foolproof...women can conceive after having one done.

i had my tubes tied after my son was born, he is 2 1/2 now, i won't say it causes problems but... i was use to a 3 day period and light to moderate bleeding. After having my tubes tied i have longer periods(6 to7 days), HEAVY bleeding. So i wouldn't say problems just more of an inconvenience.. If i had to do it all over again i would have just stayed on the pill and not get my tubes tied!!!

It doesn't cause any problems. I had my tubes tied 7 months ago with no ill effects at all. Have you talked to your OB/Gyn-he/she might be the best person to guide you depending on your health and other circumstances. Good luck!

Take the lesson from my wife. She had the kidz. I got the snipping. From what I understand, it's more difficult and invasive for a woman to get tied, than it is for a man. It didn't take long at all. And, let him know you'll get to shave him. He might enjoy that thought.

I had nothing but problems.

Let your partner get snipped.

Problems come within a few years not months. Weight gain, heavy periods is just some probs.

It's a very good alternative. You don't have to worry about remembering a pill, or getting regular injections.
