Drink whiskey every night until you die or forget, whichever comes first.

You don't. And if you're going through the pain now of trying to do so then most of the advice here is not going to help you at all. Infact friends, therapists even meeting new people will not help you. There is no way you can make yourself "move on", "forget about it" etc. It takes four seasons to grieve. No one nighter will ever fill the void of a true love loss. Remember as a kid, if you got hurt and sliced your foot or leg the initial pain was unbearable. Then the wound formed a scab and one day suddenly you look down and realize the scab has fallen off. You didn't even know where or when it happened, but it was healed. So the same will happen when you've passed through the grief. Instead of dying to get back together, waiting for a call, hating them for hurting you so bad, you'll finally be able to wish them well.<-- And that my friend is a great feeling, that is when you move on.

Depends on the situation...Did this person die? Is this person not interested in you anymore? If this person died you will honestly never forget...it stays with you the rest of your life. I had just this happen Jan 30, 2005. Extremely hard to forget...I can't. I just live day by day and know I will see him when it is my time. Everyday is lived the best I can. Yes, I have started a new relationship and yes, he does accept it. If this person is not interested in you, you still love him...well.. the heart grows fonder the longer you wait for a new love. Just go forward maybe he was not the right one for you. I hope the best for you.

You mean without using liver and brain killing chemicals? Hmm... that's a hard one. I recommend a good distraction - go meet someone else. Or find a new and exciting hobby like sky diving. Or take a long cruise with a friend. Sign up for a class in something.

And throw out everything that reminds you of the person you're trying to forget.

Forget is not the same as get over. You could miss someone forever but still be happy with where you are in life. You can get over it. Really.

Do other things. Volunteer. Work a little extra. Get involved with a group. Learn Karate. Don't worry about dating or relationships; just worry about living. The more things you do in public with other people, the sooner you'll find someone else. You can be confident that you will, eventually.

I'm telling you, it may seem bad now, but tomorrow is another opportunity.

You never forget. You just move on. As time passes the void from the passed loved one is filled with something else or somebody else. So get yourself out there and meet some new people.

In short, mourn your loss...lick your wounds, and then get a better life. It's amazing what happens after the process...you will find someone even more amazing and better to love! The former lover will become part of the landscape...and will eventually drop to the background. And when you have memories of this person, you may thank them for the lessons. Remember, you're in a better place now...and your lover gave you opportunities to learn about the selection process, communication skills, and body chemistry/physical application. Good luck.

You will never forget them but you have to make up your mind to move on. Keep yourself as busy as possible as you don't have time to feel sorry for yourself.
Write down all your feelings in a journal. Read it two weeks from the time you wrote and see if you feel the same way. I bet you won't. Then shred it and start looking toward a better future. Good luck!!

You never completely forget someone that you were in love with. As time goes by, their memory fades a little. You remember the good times and ,little by little, you start to move on.

The best advice I can give you is you never really forget them if it was true love. But, give it time, it gets easier. In the meantime, find someone else to occupy your time! LOL Best way to get over an old man (or woman) is to get a new one! ;-)

Go out with friends and also try to date someone else. Not a relationship!, just going out with someone and getting your mind off things is a helper, and eventually the right person will find you. in the mean time Friends are the best medicine.
