Are you the same person asking about where to donate a pet racoon? If not, there was someone asking about giving away their pet racoon who hadn't been in the wild... do a search in the questions section!!

I am not sure in 2006 what the laws say about keeping and taming wildlife for pets, but years ago in the Santa Cruz Mt's, a friend had a pet baby Raccoon. You would need to check with your county you live in to see what laws let you have wildlife. I have friends that keep birds of pray and there are strong laws that they must follow. If you meet the requirements to house this animal, then you might want to check with the various county animal shelters, they have resources to animal adoptions. They also pick up dead animals off our roads and dispose of them. They will confiscate animals that are in cruelty situations. There are some organizations that need people to help rear abandoned baby wild life. Make sure you meet the requirements first and know the responsibility, before you plan for your new addition.

Coons are NOT pets. Yes, they're cute and for a while they may even be cuddly, but it's only for awhile. Once they reach maturity, they cease to be 'happy' pets. They begin to really smell, a thick musky odor, and as only right, they want to be sexually active...males get mean and aggressive, females too. Don't do this to an animal. There are many others suitable for pets for you out there. Having an exotic really isn't cool. Most exotic pets end up being put down because people aren't really ready to deal with them as adults.

Racoons DO NOT make good pets..PLEASE do some research on this in fact Im pretty sure its illegal to keep them as they are known rabies carriers (they may not HAVE rabies but they still carry them) they are wild animals & despite raising them from babies or whatever they are still not domisticatable.....in fact when we were young my best friend had one that they hand raises & when it got older you couldnt go anywhere near it as it would try to bite you

You would need a raccoon only a day or two old. They are VERY wild and VERY aggressive even at a few weeks old. You would need to bottle feed it, teach it to go to the bathroom by wiping its parts with a warm, damp cloth -- about 15 times a day and even then, a year after babying it and snuggling it and calling it, "Clyde," it might still just turn around one day and pluck out one of your little sister's eyeballs and eat it. They are MEAN, aggressive little critters. Get something less troublesome and more fun, like a 100+ pound American Bulldog... or tell your family or roommates to get one, so he can EAT your raccoon when it turns on you.

Don't get a raccoon. They're gorgeous but belong in the wild and I have heard of them turning on owners even after many years of seeming tame. They just simply aren't supposed to be pets.
I agree with some of the others here - try a cat instead. Keep it indoors so it doesn't end up fighting with other animals or bringing home fleas. (I hate fleas.)
