Yes, you can. If you have been depressed for over a year, you need help, and they can help you to find it.
Good luck.

yes they are there to help and they might be able to direct you to some counselors that u could talk to in your area that might be able to help you to over come your depression. The sucide hotline is to ensure that not so many people will do the whole suicide thing and to keep people from thinking that it may be an answer i say go for it and call if u are really feeling that bad i mean it cannot hurt and it might help.

Of course they want to help you. They may give you a different number to call since they do have other people to help who may need their help a little more. I understand depression. You really should go to the Dr and get on some medication you don't have to feel that way. I have suffered from depression for 18 years I tried to kill myself a few times but thankfully it never worked then I got help and I have moments but I have been fine for 2 years now. Just please go see a Dr. psychiatrist.

why can't you go to a Doctor? This condition is caused by a variety of reasons. Often, a simple medication taken daily, can relieve the symptoms. Sometimes, something that happened to you may be causing depression. You are not alone - thousands of people are depressed. The terrible thing is that they are afraid to ask for help & suffer needlessly for years. Your quality of life can be greatly improved by a simple visit to a doctor. Good luck!

Hmm you may want to ring a helpline to ask what for help with controlling your emotions. But ringing a suicide helpline when you are not going to do it seems slightly unfair for people who may want to do it not getting through... I'm not really sure on that one... Ringing one only tells you that you should stay because the people love you, some things aren't your fault, people would miss you etc. Maybe it would be good to ring so you could realise in confidence that you are wanted here, just incase...

Yes, they have all the resources on where to go and get help. They can hook you up with lists and referalls and sliding fee scale places where it doesn't cost as much...
They are a great place to start looking for resources.
They may give you another number and ask you to call them though since you are not actvely in the middle of an attempt.

By all means, if you need to talk to someone, please call a suicide hotline. I was suicidal after my freshman year of high school, but I called and reached out and got help. Check out the links below for crisis-hotline numbers and a little bit about my own struggle. I will be praying for you. Please e-mail me at chad@jesusfreak.com if you'd like to talk.

The best thing to do would be to find a mental health clinic in your area. They usually provide low-cost counseling and would be able to help you. A suicide hot line would probably refer you to one of those so I'd give it a shot. I'm sure they are a great resource for the local mental health facilities in your area and would probably have a comprehensive list.

If the person who answers the phone does not believe you about not being suicidal, s/he may call the police to come to your house and take you to a psychiatric hospital. If you are really, really depressed and don't want to go to a hospital, it is better to find a qualified professional to help you.
If you need some help with that, please email me and I will see what I can find for you.

you can call, but you should probably call a psychiatrist or psychologist instead. if you do call the hotline, probably shouldn't tie up the phone too long so that the suicide hotline can save lives of those who are more suicide prone.
