I'm heading to New Zealand for 9 months. Do you have any packing tips?

Two things you should bring are something for rain and insect repellent. Bring layers, the weather is very changeable. Silk takes up little room and is very warm. Comfortable shoes. Bring a rolling suitcase and a backpack. Will you be staying in hostels?
The hostels there are great...clean and cheap. The one in Wellington had a hot tub on the roof and a swimming pool. Bring 2 sets of warm clothes and 3 of cool clothes and lots of underwear. Have a great time! I was there for a month in December and it was fantastic!

Big boxes, use all the big boxes you can They take while to fill and there will be less for you to lug around. Mark all boxes for rooms they go in, or you could have a mess. also pack the TP on top it may be the first thing you need. You never know. Bubble wrap evrything that is breakable and put the breakables in a box of their own. make sure to pad the box first to avoid breaking.

Zippy bags are your friend! You can put your clothes in the big ones and roll them to get more stuff crammed in. Everyone gets hard suitcases...take a big duffle or a big soft side bag that you can drag on wheels or carry on your shoulders. Don't take things you know you can buy when you get there or just take sample sizes to tide you over the first few days. Have fun!

When you pack, roll each thing up very tightly instead of folding them. This way you can fit a lot more into a suitcase.
