I live in Texas, and the local weather stations had a stormchaser seminar that the public could attend. It was very information (although a little technical) but at least I now know more about how to recognize a potential tornado stormcloud and how it acts. Maybe if you could find something like that and know more about tornados, it may help you face storms easier, and perhaps lessen your fear.
Also when there are potential storms on their way, check the radars for location and direction, then be prepared to go to a safe place. You can make a tornado kit to be able to grab if needed on your way out the door. It's natural and advisable to be afraid of something so dangerous, just try to be as prepared as you can be if the need arises, and until then try to stay informed.
I personally feel better if I can actually see the cloud and determine for myself if I need to go to a safe place or not. However, if the storm's at night, thats not possible. I have seen tornados and had them go over me up in the cloud and you could hear it as it went over. I felt each time that I should have been somewhere safer. Fear of something so uncontrollable is needed for safety, just try to keep any irrational fear to a minimum by controlling where you are in a storm and lessening your chances of harm.

I live in tornado alley and you should fear them but here's a few things you can do.

Watch the weather and know the signs of a potential tornado.

Have a safe place that you can go to mapped out ahead of time.

Have water, flashlights and a battery powered radio during the season.

Stay up durning a bad storm incase you need to leave and get to safety.

There's nothing you can do but be prepared.

it relatively is comprehensible. I as quickly as became into afraid of them while i became into transforming into up in Oklahoma. Are you afraid which you will get harm? the terrific factor that helped me became into understand-how basically what a thunderstorm is. that's basically a manner nature balances issues out. The issues that a hurricane does will almost continuously not at all harm you. they are able to produce various rain, wind and lightning, yet once you reside interior remote from abode windows those issues won't harm you (except you are the place undesirable flooding can take place, wherein case you may would desire to go away). Is it tornadoes your afraid of? They actually are issues to concern, yet understand that for the period of straightforward terms a number of the main effective storms produce tornadoes, and maximum tornadoes do no longer final very long. You regularly pay attention of in straightforward terms the undesirable ones, and not the numerous ones that temporarily touch down in rural aspects inflicting little or no injury. Does that help? the terrific factor is to in straightforward terms stay conscious of issues and understand what to do if the worst happens, which via some distance in maximum circumstances, does not take place.

My Mother was terrified of them because she was in one at age 18 in Gainesville GA, over 200 people were killed in her small town. She became a nurse that day, she remained afraid her whole life. There are four of us girls and all of us are afraid. It is normal to be afraid, study them and learn more about them, we fear what we do not know!

There's nothing scary about tomatoes. They just grow in a garden, and sit on a vine till you pick them. If you're afraid of them, try squashing a few. It might help you get over your odd fear.

Realize and accept that you have NO CONTROL over it. Prepare yourself for any effects that could come from it. Prepare. And then after you are prepared physically, sit out on your porch and watch storms (not at any risk to you...only when it is in the distance). I did this and became very interested in them and also in my reasons for being so afraid. I believe it is/was my feeling of being "not in control" of my surroundings.
