I know some people will call me a racist and say stuff like "how does a black person act" but you know exactly what I'm talking about.

I'm trying to open my mind but how do I get past the wanna-be-hip-hop-gangsta-rap-star

I'm trying to relate and not hate.

You can only understand the black people that act white because maybe they are the ones that relate to you the most.Really, there's no such thing as a black person acting "white."Because they don't act like the "supposed to be"or the "this is how a black person acts"people began to think they act white.Every black person doesn't act they way of the average idea of a black person.I turned 13 in june.So this advice came from my brain.I, myself am black, native american, and spanish, mainly black. Many blacks act the way they do because of hatred towards others, especially black females. If they see another black person with long hair they begin to show hatred toward that person.
Black people are unlike any other race. You may have heard that black people have butts and lips and white people don't,it's true but not for everyone, because everyone is different.Just like every black person doesn't act the same, everyone is different.Black people may be judged by other whites(racist people)because of their color.Which may be the case when they can't get a specific job or career,or they may get dirty looks by whites because they are black,do you know what I mean. Black or white I look at situations from all different points of view.If you don't like one black person you shouldn't not like the others, give them a chance. The hip-hop black people have their own way of thinking. When you get around them don't say the n word, don't say hommie, dog,yo,what it do,huslin, hustler, thug, hoodlum, and dime piece. All you can do is treat them like any other person you know. Don't act black, don't say much, just avoid them.Because you don't understand why they think the way they do,you don't know their past, and you don't know what makes them, them.

I've been black all my life...35 years and "the wanna be hip hop gangsta rap" life style couldn't be further from me. I agree with the guy above who said it sounds like you're having a CLASS issue, not just a race issue. Where are you meeting these people and why do they have to fit into your expectations? Where would you want to meet cool white people? Hang around the very same places and meet cool black people. Go to a college campus, a church, a coffee shop, the House of Blues (NOT on a hip hop night), a music (instrument) store, a jazz club, the health club. By the way, the ones that are "acting white" are subject to YOUR definition of whatever THAT means. Articulate? Educated? Harmless looking..so to you they don't qualify to be black? Ludicrous. Free your mind and the rest will follow. Be colorblind, don't be so shallow.

American Indian here, but let me see what I can do to help. uh let's see,First of all you are not racist. You do talk to the some already. So, make another step by just going ahead and talking to other black folks. Your step will show that you are not afraid of them. And this should lead them to not be afraid of you. You don't have to be a wanna be hip hop. Just be yourself. It would be more appreciated by others. You don't have to hate. I believe what you don't realize yet is that peer pressure might be bothering you. You might also be afraid that other people of your color will reject you. This is your life and you should run it the way you want to. get past the color thing. It might not have been your fault to begin with for you to feel this way about black people. Go ahead, try, you might find that you had nothing to fear after all. Try kinder black folks instead of just the ones who act like white folks. If you think about it, the ones you understand are also just trying to fit in with other people and not feel what their ancestor felt. It's good you are asking that question. It's the non-racist people who could and can change their environment. In a good way I mean.

There are no rules based on color that establish criteria for black or white behavior. In other words people of any color or race will most likely behave in a certain manner when in a similar situation.

Try to think about smiles. It is a universal language. People when in pain will cry. Again a universal phenomenon. Color plays NO role.

Once you learn to appreciate quality and merit no matter where it comes from, you will get over the superficial black/white barrier.

Don't try to get past the hip hop stuff. It's normal for some people to act that way. Black or White. Lots of people don't act that way. Black or White. It isn't the fact of ones color that makes them act a certain way. People will act the way they want if they have pigment in their skin or not.

How do white people act? The same way you react to M&M then again the same way you would act towards Pat Sajack from wheel of fortune. People are people weather they are green or blue so the question is do you have insecurities within your self that hold you back from being who you really are.
Create peace and love within your self then spread it around by being yourself. Allow people to be who they are. Be accepting without comprimising your own morales no matter what the race is.

In short Just Be you. A loving human being trying to adjust in a crazy world.

From your question, it seems as if you think there are two types of black people: those who act like white people, and those who are gansta wannabes. If this is how you think, then maybe what you should do is open your mind to is the reality of a variety of different types of people - regardless of race.

What you can do is find something about yourself that you like sharing in common with others. For instance, if you like music, try to meet other people who like the same kind of music you do. Go to lounges, concerts, whatever...to make yourself some new friends. I guarantee you that there won't only be white people in that crowd... and if there ARE only white people, I guarantee you that you won't be able to relate to all of them.

Once you're in a place with people who share something in common with you, then it's up to you to make the first step in terms of not limiting your new friendships to white people alone. Good luck.

haha, you know I feel the same way...and what I have noticed is alot of white people try to do the whole hip-hop..gangster thing too. I live in Vermont so it's not an everyday thing. But when certain people I grew up with act like that it confuses me, why are they trying so hard to have an accent and use certain slang that is not associated with Vermont in any way.

Relate to black people? Uhm, wow. All black people breath, we know that. Can't be sure if they're all into hip-hop and gansta. Just seeing that you define race with personality stereotyping shows you have a long way to go.

Be yourself. The only people I can and do relate to are intelligent people who have brilliant ideas, like myself. Example: A person tells me that they want to design a wedding dress that can be turned into a pair of pants for the reception. My answer, Velcro on top of the skirt dress that hooks onto the top of the dress, the skirt can be easily pulled off and there will be pants underneathe the dress that can also be hooked to the top of the dress. I would have to draw it to give everyone a clear detail of it.
