I attended a meeting in HongKong with BASF and got a copy of their PP slides: they peg world daily oil consumption at 75.6 million barrels of oil/day.
Oil, outside of burning is used for plastics, asphalt, tar, waterproofing, solvents, lubricants and sealants.
Oils spills/24 hours relates to magnitude of the spill you want to look at. Even confining to spills over 2000 gallons is problematic. For example, most large ships dump oil from their bilges that accumulates from typical engine operations. A typical electrical plant on a ship requires an oil change a week. Ports and dock heavily fine ship operators for dumping nearby, so this is usually done inconspicuously far out at sea. No chance of capturing many outside of the biggest spills.

There is a ****ton of oil used in a 24 hour span. Look and see how many cars are your street. Lets say all 15 of them use 10 gallons a day. Multiply that by roughly the population of your city. Then your state. Then the country. Well, you get the idea.

I believe it is about 83-84 million barrels a day. The USA uses about a quarter of this, of which about 6 million barrels a day are produced domestically, i.e. from U.S. oil wells.
