Depending on your plumbing system, you can add a "T" to the existing line, and run a new line from that to your fridge.
It will also matter if you have copper or cpvc plastic lines.
Do you have access to the main line going to your sink? If it is closer to your fridge, you may be better off drilling a hole behind your fridge through the floor, and running a line from there. Also might want to put a shutoff on your new line. If you ever have a problem or a leak, or just change refridgerators to one without an icemaker, you just have to shut off that line, and not the whole house. Lastly, don't underestimate the ability of a good person at your local hardware store, or a plumber for advice. They are usually very easy to get answers from.

Go to your local Ace hardware or Lowes and get an ice line tap. It's a copper bracket with a sharp point that you screw into the water pipe. Then you back off a little bit and you have a water tap that you hook a hose to. A rubber wrap keeps it from leaking. Of course, you can never remove it.

I could desire to ask first: Do you have a basement? How come the pipes are coming from the ceiling, particularly of up from the basement? If in any respect attainable, i could run the pipes UP from the basement. If no longer attainable, you may placed them in a wall, yet i could use Pex particularly of copper although. For outdoors partitions, Pex can freeze and develop as much as 7 cases its width without bursting. in case you weld the copper incorrect, it could desire to hold now, yet particularly of lasting 10 years, it could desire to purely final a million. On remodels, a Mater Plumber inspector confirmed me that plumbing we had from yet another plumber held water now, yet does no longer final. It had burn marks at all the weld spots, so the joints weren't going to hold. in case you run it in an outdoors wall, then use braces horizontally between joists to guard the pipes, and placed insulation interior the wall, suitable to backside. try this when you are trying the pipes. you may T off the pex in the wall, and placed galvanized from there, into your cupboard below the sink. And use sturdy close-offs, no longer the $3 plastic ones, they wreck too. Get the metallic a million/4 turn close off valves.

go to any hardware store and get a self tapping valve. Make sure your'e tapping into copper pipe, please. You can even leave the water on, connect to the COLD water side, in a place where you can turn the handle on and off if necessary. ACE harware even sells a special kit for what you need. If your'e afraid to do it, hire a plumber.

Use what is kown as a "saddle valve" available at any hardware or pumbliing supply for a couple of dollars. It simply clamps over the pipe and when you turn the valve, it pierces the pipe. Simple and effective, but check for leaks carefully after you install.

you need to buy a blow torchy thing and a good pair of water pump pliers, heat the pipe up untill it turns a pretty cherry red, once this happens, shear the pipe, the put a piece of tin foil over it to stop the leaks, now you need to buy a plastic piece to put between the sheared pipe and run the hose to your refrigerator...i had good experience doing this, make sure you have a fire extinguisher near-by...I didnt and it was really bad. I have minor burns to my hands and face, so gloves and a face shield may help, good luck

you can buy a fitting kit that will allow you to run water to your fridge, without having to cut and braze a tap in.
I worked for a refrigeration place that installed water fed humidifiers, and we used them alot.
