i just tried acrylic but it does not stick on. once it is dry it can easily peel off. someone suggested polyurethane but i have not tried it.

It depends on the type of plastic. You can try Krylon Fusion paint that's specifically used for plastic.

Acrylic, enamel, and lacquer will work on polystyrene (typical toy material). Paint generally will not adhere to extremely soft plastics (think margarine tub lids).nor to extremely hard plastics. What are you painting?

Krylon makes a spray paint specifically for plastic.

I've seen a TV commercial for a Krylon spray paint that is supposed to bond to plastic. They show it being used on lawn furniture, etc.

There is a spray paint that works great on plastics..there are several brands out there...we got ours at a Meijers. I am sure a Walmart or Kmart would have them too.
