what i would like to know is which is the best at virus detection, every company will say they have the"one",but it seems my program can come back after a full system check with a qlean report, and i'll run an other prg and it finds five viruses. So which is
really the best? any techs out there with experience running different prgs, let me know. I recently had a complete systems crash, wich destroyed every thing i had,so my quest for protection is not a the least trivial, any info on maximizing my pcs security would be greatly welcome..thanks and to all safe surfing.

I'm running AVG which is freeware and its works better than any paid for program I have tried. I also use spybot another free program. I would take a long look at them if I was you. Norton and mcafee are nearly virus's themselves. They also are very hard too get off your pc. Good luck!!

I dropped symantec and norton and mcafee because I found they were slowing my system down and using a lot of system resources.
I switched to a program called nod 32 (put out by eset, www.eset.com). It automatically updates at least once a day and works quickly. I think the software and the subscription was something like $40/year or $60/two. I have not had any issues since I switched and would recommend it highly.

YOU are the best virus protection that you can have. And it is FREE. You need to engage brain before using computer. In your case, you might want to subscribe to multiple virus protection programs. Mcafee used to be the best, then they went WAY downhill. The others are up and down. Some are slower to respond to new attacks than others (norton). But you should understand how virus's propagate if you want to stop them from getting on your system.

You shouldn't be running two Anti-Virus applications on the same computer. That can create conflict right there. I've actually done tech support calls where one Anti-Virus application is flagging the other Anti-Virus program as a virus (not the whole thing but certain files).

Sometimes it's not the scanner's fault, sometimes there are adware/spyware and virusus teaming together, and whenever either one gets deleted, the partner program re-generates its partner, if you know what i mean. The best thing to do is to do a full spyware check with a program like "Spybot Search & Destroy" Good Luck!

I know that there are a lot of opinions floating around, but I've seen this type of problem before, and I'm going to give you my best advice.
Sadly, malware has become more and more sophisticated and difficult to remove. Many of the older ones can be removed easily with our anti-virus or spyware scanners, but more frequently it requires highly skilled people who specialize in their removal; (for ex. many are programmed to replicate themselves, if certain components are removed in the wrong order. )
This place is great for general information, but we're only allowed one resopnse, and for removing malware problems like the ones you're experiencing, you'd be better served asking in a forum where each progressive step for solving your problem could be monitored by qualified experts.
I'm suggesting that you seek advice at either of these places:

Dump the software and get a router with Network Address Translation. That will protect you from the outside (you can still do stupid things to compromise your system).
Then just visit TrendMicro.com for a home scan - up to date all the time and free.

Before trying other antivirus out there, try ANTIVIR! Update of virus definition is automatic. You will not get any virus then as I do.
