I am having terrible sharp pains in my lower left abdomen. It's been going on all day. Does anyone have any ideas.

If you get this type of pain it is probably irritable bowel or gas. If you get it midway between your periods it could be related to your ovaries. Sometimes if you have a long appendix you could experience pain on the left side, especially if associated with anorexia, fever... Those are the most likely causes if you are a relatively young person. In older people, diverticulitis is another consideration.

If it keeps getting worse, or if there's a possibility of pregnancy, better go to the ER.

Ovarian cyst? Ovulation pains? (Look at where you are in your cycle - that'll help in that vein.) Did they come on suddenly? It could be gassy pains.

Your appendix is on your right side, so that's probably not an issue. If you're doubled over and can't move or run a fever or begin to vomit, see a doctor ASAP.

could be many things...ovarian cyst, ectopic pregnancy, bowel obstruction,gas...either way if it continues into the night you may want to consider going to the ER where you can get a definitive answer....and if it was an ectopic pregnancy you will need emergency surgery.....
