Because in America, the huge rivalry is CHEVY VS. FORD.. yeah sure sometimes people will throw Dodge or Toyota in there.. I am a pure Chevy man. I also do like Dodge. But I know that my dad has had a lot of problems with Ford.. actually, I know a lot of people have had a lot of problems with Ford. My Family has almost always owned a Chevy. We have never had problems. Chevrolet also respects and values their buyers.

I respect solid engineering.
As a general rule, Ford is usually on the cutting edge of technology, which means their cars are usually a cut above. BUT Ford also changes their components more frequently because of their changing technology. Thus, there is a problem getting parts to work from other platforms (or even within a same platform unless you know exactly what you had and what you need).
As a general rule, Chevy's are a lot more forgiving when replacing parts. Most every part fits several models across several years. Just look at how long their venerable small block V-8 lasted - case in point.
And I own a 1967 Camaro and a 1973 Ford Falcon XB and a 1999 VW Beetle (turbo diesel) - so not particularly biased towards one or the other.

I really think it is all about how you were raised. I was raised a Chevy girl and I still am. I love my car and it is great. Now, yes Chevy has made some huge pieces of junk but so has every other car line. I think it is all about opinion and the ability to have something to compare your car to. I do think it is kind of crappy that every time gm comes out with incentives on cars that Ford has to come do it too. They can't step out in front and have the balls to come up with something first. Owell maybe that is just the way they do business. I think ford made a bad a** mustang this time:) SWEET car

I have a '63 chevy truck that I drove all the way to cabo san lucas for the eclipse in 1992.
but I do not hate fords. some of the older ones are very nice looking
it does bother me when I see a ford guy in a shirt insulting all chevys. I feel like walking up and asking if they have a problem with me. especially if it is an old fat man in the shirt.
I am however not impressed with anyone who says their vehicle is the best when it is only a few years old. if it is older then mine, THEN you can brag.

I think most people don't even know why they like one or the other. I typically lean more toward Chevrolet, but I drive both. They both have there good areas and there ***-pain areas, so there is no good argument on either side. It is the same reason people are die-hard fans to one race car driver that they have never, and will never meet, something is just appealing about them. I don't understand it either, but I do know it is more fun to run down Fords to all my mustang friends than it is to talk-up GM products, even though my stock 81 ford truck gets drove more than my built 86 Firebird.

I think it's more that the guy who professes "I HATE FORD" or I HATE CHEVY" is just a whimp shoving his chest out to make himself look like a macho stud who drives said vehicle. Personally, I like Ford. I don't love it, hate it, I like it. I also like Chevy. I don't put a Calvin sticker on my truck pissing on either one. Right now I drive a Nissan. I get 34 Miles Per Gallon and when you drive 25 miles one way to work, the mileage adds up. I am a die hard Nascar Fan also. I cheer on Ford and Chevy. My favorite Driver is Dale Jr, who drives Chevy. So, I do not see what the fuss is about either.

It's a fun rivalry. I'm a Chevy/GM guy. My first car was a 68 Camaro. It sits in the garage. I've had a 67 skylark convertible, a 66 GMC pickup and I might remember more later.
I own Ford stock. Go figure.

People are ignorant. Car is a damn car. Ford Chevy Dodge Honda VW who cares if it runs that's all that should matter. You can make any car perform no matter what it is.
