If you sign up for Yahoo! Messenger you can only IM other people who also use messenger. You can't, for instance, IM someone on AIM or iChat with a Yahoo! ID. That is the same for all of the different IM services.

You can only IM them if they have the same IM program.

If you have Yahoo IM then they need it also.

All the major providers are working on a system where different IM programs communicate with each other. It's not there yet.

Your best bet is to use a program called trillian - lets you get messages from people using aim,msn,and yahoo - all through one interface

If they have yahoo instant messenger you can im them but if they have something else like msn you can't send an instant message to them both of you have to have the same kind, both have to have yahoo or both have to have msn.

If you are all using Yahoo Messenger, then yes.
Different programs do not interface with each other.

As long as they are using Yahoo IM, you can IM them.

no, it must all be the same EVEN THE SAME COLOR and on the same desk facing north or it won't work at all
