Well, I'm a fellow bad kneed motorcycle rider (I couldn't ride for a while following surgery). Let me get this straight, riding, stopping, starting, etc doesn't hurt your knees at all? It's just the getting on and off part?
I don't know there aren't too many ways to mount and dismount a bike. I'd suggest talking to your physical therapist about this. Show him/her the movement you do as you get on your bike. They'll probably be able to see any obvious twisting or straining that can be avoided, and help you with strengthening some leg muscles to help take some pressure of the joint itself.
other random ideas- try alternating sides you get on and off of (just watch out for that hot tail pipe).
Try a shorter bike, and see if that hurts as much. I know it would be hard to give up a gold wing, but when your only other option is not riding at all....well...

Why the hell would you have a Goldwing when you know your knees are stuffed? I suggest you get rid of it for health reasons.

Most people with bad knees and ankles ride trikes.

I'd say see an Orthopedist and ask him about hinged knee braces.
They give you extra support and can actually strengthen your knees after awhile.

I think perhaps you shouldn't be riding a motorcycle in the first place...

if you are riding on the Bit** seat there should be footrest on a Gold Wing that you use as a stirrup, just grin and bear it depending on how bad you really want to ride.

Sandy, don't mind these non-riders. Talk to other Gold Wingers.
