From my ESPN Insider:

Bobby Abreu:
Phillies

Brewers?
Mets?
Yankees?
Tigers?

Strange Brew For Abreu?

Jul 16 - Add one more team to the list of clubs interested in Bobby Abreu -- Milwaukee.
The Brewers recently contacted the Phillies to see what it might take to get Abreu, an executive of a club with interest in the right fielder told ESPN.com's Jayson Stark. But don't bet your favorite photo of Bernie Brewer on this deal going down.

The Brewers still haven't decided if they're going to be buyers or sellers. And even if Milwaukee stepped up its pursuit, a baseball man friendly with Abreu says he would be surprised if Abreu waived his no-trade clause to go to the Brewers.

The Yankees and Mets also have both informed the Phillies that they have an interest in making a trade for Bobby Abreu, according to a report in the New York Post.

Abreu is owed about $23.5 million through the 2007 season, which includes a $2 million buyout should his $16 million option for 2008 not be exercised. Abreu also has a no-trade clause and, to waive that, his agent, Peter Greenberg, indicated the option would probably have to be picked up or additional dollars added to the contract.

Citing a National League executive, the newspaper also reported that Phillies GM Pat Gillick will give his team two weeks to get back into the playoff race or else he will more seriously consider making major trades.

Julio Lugo
Devil Rays

Brewers?
Blue Jays?
Mets?
Red Sox?

Lugo back on the block
Jul 17 - The Julio Lugo sweepstakes is heating up now that the Devil Rays made their first move, trading Aubrey Huff to the Astros, reports ESPN.com and Scouts Inc.'s Keith Law.
The Blue Jays, Mets, and possibly the Brewers (if shortstop J.J. Hardy is out for a while) are all interested. The Red Sox are also showing lukewarm interest in Lugo, as well.

Greg Maddux
Cubs

Brewers?
Athletics?
Dodgers?
Padres?

Hey, bro!

Jul 6 - According to a report in the Chicago Tribune, the Brewers have inquired about the availability of Greg Maddux. whose brother, Mike, is the Brewers' pitching coach. Ned Yost, the Brewers' manager, was also a coach with the Braves for a time when Maddux played in Atlanta.
Maddux, in the final season of a three-year, $24 million deal, doesn't have a no-trade clause in his current contract, but it's believed the Cubs won't trade him unless he agrees to the deal.

The Dodgers are among the other teams who are thought to be interested in acquiring the 40-year-old Maddux.

The only Brewer rumor that I've heard is Carlos Lee being traded to the Cubs. But I don't know if that will happen before August or not until the end of the season. Chicago has plenty of people they'd probably be willing to give up so Milwaukee could have their pick and choose.

Usually late season trade consist of trading a high paid player for minor leaguers. Some teams feel they can't pay for their future salaries, unload them to start over. The other teams use the model of "renting," which is using him for the balance of the season to push for the playoffs. After the season, he's a free agent, off to another team. Very rarely do you see high profile, one on one trades like Lee for Abreu. The only time that may happen is "Sir George."
What the Brewers do in the next week will detemine if it worth the push for the playoffs with Lee or start over next year.
If the latter is the scenario, prepare not to see Jenkins in a Brewwer uniform next year.

The Brewers won't be in the Abreau sweepstakes. But it's nice to have Tomo back. Great coverage of trade rumors, etc. on the mlb.com website:

i'd imagine the Giants may fare extra proper with that deal because they get a slugger, Prince Fielder. possibly Matt Cain will carry out a lot extra proper interior the NL crucial. If that is genuine, each man or woman will honestly income.

I've heard rumors of him possibly going to the Yankees, but a deal isn't close so I don't know who'd be going the other way.
