You can get a degree in social work (B.A. sometimes B.S.W. from some schools) and just specialize in children.

Your first choice would be a BSW or a Bachelors of Social Work. Second would be a BA or BS (depending on the school) in Social Welfare. From there you can go right into a shorter master's program or work. If you go to a liberal arts college or one that doesn't offer a degree in Sociology, Psychology, or Education. Talking to an admissions officer in the school that you are interested in would be the best major at your individual school.

Either sociology or psychology sounds like they could be relevant, or possibly even education. I second the recommendation that you may then want to go onto getting a master's in education.

In the meantime, you may also want to do volunteer activities/internships on the side that will help you get into graduate school (if you do end up pursuing an MSW) or that will help you get a job.

Easier to get a job with a Master's in social work (M.S.W.) Undergrad can be in almost anything, but social sciences are always a good choice. Go to any college's website and look at their requirements.
