Take highway 25 south out of Denver to Walsenburg. Turn right on 160 in Walsenburg, go over Levita Pass toward Alamosa. Just as you clear the last mountain range on the right (Sangre De Cristo range) you will start seeing the Sand Dunes off to your right. Continue toward Alamosa, pass through the town of Blanca to Highway 150. Turn right on 150 and it leads you straight to the Sand Dunes appx. 17 mi ahead. Total distance from Denver to Alamosa shows to be 239 mi. Should be the same to the Dunes. Just drove through there myself but had no time to stop and climb them again.
