NEVER EVER answer the door to a man you don't recognize.
EVER EVER EVER.
If you are expecting someone to say for example deliver something then call out and ask who he is and what does he want.

I would suggest not answering the door. If it is important they can come back later or leave you a note.

If somebody tries breaking in you should consider calling 911 and perhaps exiting from another direction and fleeing the scene. A window or another door is a safer way to exit should they have any harm in mind for you.

Probably, they are just selling something door to door, a neighbor stopping by to pleasantly meet you or complain about noise perhaps, or a Jehovah's Witness. Generally speaking, people at your door have good intentions. But, if you are feeling potentially unsafe it is better to wait and see what happens than be in a less secure environment by opening your door.

At times, I get a little paranoid and don't feel like leaving my house or opening the door or answering my phone. That is alright as the world is still there when I return to those normal activities. At times, I prefer to be alone than with other people and leave unexpectedly and suddenly. Feelings are a strange thing indeed and may have a good cause and may have none at all.

I don't know where you live but I live alone also (23/female) and when someone knocks my door I always call someone and leave my phone on speaker while I answer. I have a chain lock on the door so I open the door with that locked while I peek out to see what they want. But if it is dark and you don't know him then don't answer. If there is something he needs to tell you he can leave a note or come back during day light.
I've never had a problem but it is good to be precautions.

hmmmm, home alone, scared, and a male. sounds like you shouldnt be home alone if you are that much
of a chicken. why didnt you just ask, what do you want, thru the door? maybe you should go hide in the closet or under the covers of your bed until mommy gets home. if you cant see him, he cant see you. maybe he was the boogey man knocking on the door.

Don't answer the door! If he is not a friend or family member than never answer the door! Unless a parent is home!

umm why are you scared at 22 years old, no offense, is he "scary" looking? you should invite him in for tea, that'll calm him down.
