Is this a question about cultural differences in film? In my culture it is considered frightening to fall when being pursued by that which you wish to avoid because your terror might catch up and overtake you. To lie down is to make yourself vulnerable. When one child pins another child in a fight the child pinned says "uncle" an expression that offers surrender in the hope of release. It is also considered frightening to fall into a dark crevice, since you may become trapped in need of rescue, since the crevice is dark you have no way of knowing how deep it is or what lies at the bottom. It is a theater climax to provoke emotion and interest in the audience. We even have a popular expression to describe such an event in a story; "A Cliff-Hanger". Hanging from a cliff in the literal sense is no more desired here than in any other culture, but when the reference is made to a literary work it usually indicates a positive review, an engaging tale.

The same reason people fall in the water (when the boats not even movin) in shark movies.I know a lot of people that it gets them yellin at the screen. White people just happen to be the ones who do the falling. Teenagers have sex and die afterwards. Its just one of the "trends" horror movies seem to follow.

Not white people, the young, air-headed girl with big boobs who is just buying time until the big strong hero guy can come and save her, they're just trying to be dramatic. Its the cliche, it wouldn't be a horror movie without it.

They fall because the are running like hell to get away from what ever is so horrifying. That would be like saying that black people always get killed in horror movies. Both are stereotypes. Oh! Black people always get killed first because they ain't running!

LOL! That's a good question! What I'd like to know is in latter horror flicks, there's always a token black guy or girl who dies half way through the movie?
