Why don't you try counting counts?
Start at Count Dracula, Duckula, The Count from Sesame Street, Count... err ... down, mmm Viscount biscuits, count zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.....
.... always works.
(Counting c*nts doesn't work. The first name I always think of is Jim Davidson which just sends me on a violent rampage.)

If you do try counting, it will be the rhythm of it that helps you sleep, not the animal that you count. Counting has never worked for me, though.
If you're having trouble falling asleep, try this: find a comfortable position. Lay like that, and DON'T MOVE. Now, close your eyes. Lastly, try to stay awake.
The key is to keep your eyes closed and not move. That last is really optional, but it always helps me. Keeping your eyes closed keeps stimulation (e.g., the nearby street light through the window) out of your brain, and holding still helps your muscles relax. With your body and mind at ease, you can easily slip into unconciousness.

It probably works for some and not for others.
Just like some people are better hypnosis subjects because they are more open to suggestion.
If you count it in a monotonous way, it may very well be so boring that it sends you to sleep. In this case, it may not really matter what you count but how you count it - in a slow, boring monotonous way that is a kind of self-hypnosis and relaxing technique.

You can try, but it probably won't help any more than counting sheep will. The act of counting keeps your mind occupied and thinking, which is ill conducive to falling asleep. A better way to try to fall asleep is to concentrate on relaxing, and to focus on breathing deeply and steadily. You'll be asleep before you know it.

I've read an article that counting sheep will not make u sleep faster. instead of counting sheep, imagine a soothing scenery, like waterfall, flowing river, sea, green trees... will actually work better.
one of my friend suggests close your eyes and chanting (according to your belief/religion) inside your heart.
well, u can choose either one and try!

No, don't count anything. It is just making your brain work more and it gives you NO time to get sleepy. I don't know what idiot came out with the fact that counting sheep makes you sleepy.

yeh you can count whatever, the idea is to stop your mind from thinking, and counting sheep is a boring task which does just that, so try not to count exciting animals like seahorses, iguanas and leprichorns.
