No. It's no more unsafe than holding brick while standing in a rainstorm. The cellphone is not grounded, so lightning cannot use it as a conduit to the ground. And the cellphone doesn’t have any large static charge, which is what lightning releases.

On the evening news last week there was a story about a kid who's ipod was struck by lightening while he was using it. I'm sure the same thing is possible with a cell phone so just be smart about where and when you are using it.
Any more thunderstorm questions? (I am assuming it's storming there)

Cell phones are perfectly safe to use during a thunderstorm. They are not hooked up to wires that run high up on utility poles, and therefore not susceptable to carrying a charge from a lightning strike on the wires to your body like a wired phone would be. Enjoy your new cell phone.

There's some speculation that it increases your chances of being hit, but they don't cause any more chance of being hit than any kind of small metal object. The real thing that you have to worry about is not being the tallest object around or being around a tall object Also, don't be hanging out in the middle of an open area. I saw some news report on it a little while ago on the yahoo video player.

It's safe. There is some risk involved in talking on a landline during a thunderstorm, but it's remote.

Depends on where you are standing . . . can lightening reach you? Land phone lines are unsafe since once a major line is hit, the electricity travels.

That a myth, there is absolutely no danger of getting struck by lighting. It's more dangerous to walk in the rain with while holding your keys in your hand. No worries!
