What are the best D.C. suburbs to live in? I need something with a metro station nearby, lower cost of living if possible, but I also want a nicer area (i.e. lower crime).

Lower cost of living meaning hopefully not paying more than $800 a month for a 1 bedroom, 1 bath apartment.

Try Alexandria, Arlington, Abington in Virginia. There are many places close in to DC that are very commutable. Both Virginia and Maryland are options.

What do you mean by lower cost of living? College Park isn't ritzy but it ain't the 'hood either. Also try Greenbelt, Lanham, Takoma Park.
