Ok, now..if your thinking Lebanon is really getting what it deserves, then your wrong it is the Lebanese goverment that deserves punishment, not innocet civilians who had nothing to do with it. It's sad that the multi-billion (or was it million?) project to restore Lebanon is going to waste. It's just like any country that was and is stuck in a war. with innocent civilions caught in the middle of this action..Does any one disagree or agree with me?

Innocent civilians are usually stuck in the middle of any war.

However, think of when the police chase criminals. The driver drives at a high speed. The cops give chase. The roads are now more dangerous for everyone, including the large majority of drivers who have nothing to do with the chase.

Then, the criminal stops his car somewhere and gets out and starts shooting at the cops. People on the sidewalks and in the neighborhood are now at grave risk, and they didn't have anything to do with it.

In the Lebanese case, individuals from within Lebanese society are using Lebanese territory to launch rockets at Israel. The Israeli response is predictably heavy-handed (although it may be a bit heavier than other nations might consider, but it is predictable).

The government does not have the military forces to stop Hizbollah, regardless of what the Prime Minister of Israel calls for. It is a sad situation. Many innocent people on both sides of the border will die, lose loved ones, be injured, or lose property. One can only hope that things can be done to conclude this situation as quickly and expeditiously as possible.

The lebanese people deserve this as much as the US citizen deserved 9/11. I.E Not at all. Hizbollah are an organisation based in Lebanon. A minority group.

"Hezboullah isn't REALLY a part of Lebanon, it is just based there. There are a lot of people Hezboullah killed that are in Lebanon, they really aren't FOR Lebanon."

That's exactly what my sister said. Or sort of

I agree with you gokart121, I've always have been annoyed how other countries expect us to come and help them out, when we have our own country to run.

Are you sure this thing has been going on for years? Lebanon was a more peacful country then portland is when I lived there, I was just a little kid I guess, maybe I didn't know what was going on.

That's hard 2 say...if you read the news, this whole thing's been going on for years n years...if it was you, and your kids, and your neighbor, and their kids, and their kids were using slingshots on your kids, telling you that you had no right to live there, how would you react, as a parent? As far as investment goes, I say 'invest in america'. Start new businesses, do more for OUR citizens, and let/expect the rest of the world to take care of itself, more.

I think that the downside of 'globalization' is that now 1/2 the planet expects our country to ride to the rescue, solve their problems, it's dependency. If you want people to ACT like adults, TREAT them like adults, plain, and simple. Some responsibility, maturity, sensibilty, the whole trip. You don't foster that by just throwing money everywhere...

How about this....once Hizbollah is eradicated, Israel should volunteer to send soldiers to help reconstruct Lebanon, as well as money to rebuild.

I realize 90% of a country's reconstruction will have to be done by professionals: bridge builders, road construction crews, etc. but Israel should seriously consider making friends with Lebanon.

Civilians always suffer in a war.

I like the guy who used 911 as an example. Our governments irresponsible foreign policy resulted in an attack on 3000 "innocent" people. (I put innocent in quotes since we have a government "by the people" so I'm not sure any of us are innocent when we fail to help shape our contries policies and allow things like the training of Osama in the name of defeating communism)

War is hell and innocents die. That's why it should always be a last resort.

Up to now 300 civilians have been killed in Lebanon and 1000 injured. ALL FOR 2 HOSTAGES. (It makes you wonder were there actually any hostages or was it a case like Iraq? )
