Sadly, the last Carrier Pigeon Corp. is no longer...

"India's unique police Carrier Pigeon Service, a communications lifeline throughout more than 50 years of cyclones, floods and drought, is being grounded, making more than 800 of the country's cheapest and most reliable civil servants redundant."

You might also be disturbed to know that the 2 cans and a bit of string you use as a means of communication has also be made redundant.

Try UPS. United Pigeon Service. That is the straight poop. They have a lot of drop ins. Drop ins are a big part of their business. It use to be a fly by night business, but it has gotten better. Why mail someone a message when you can give them the bird?

Your recipient would need do be the keeper of the carrier pigeon. You can't send them out to various addresses. The only thing they know how to do is return home.

(That's what I meant, Dana. The situation you describe does alter the pigeon. It now thinks it is home. So it does what it does best, return home.)

It must exist 'cause pigeons are always sending me messages (b*astards!). Why don't you try sending a message in a bottle - you can do it yourself.

p.s. If you saw the movie "Ghost Dog - Way of the Samurai", the gangsters used passenger pigeons to send messages. So maybe try your local mafia.

I don't think it works like that. :-)

You'd have to keep one at the recipient's home until the pigeon thought of that location as IT'S home, then transport it to wherever you wanted to send the message from and let it go. You can't just send one to 123 Cherry Lane, Anytown, USA. They're really good at getting home, but they can't read addresses.
