i would feel more comftorable about seeing a movie if they had like a 20 thumb system.

Never was, especially with cusp films (not bad enough for a thumbs down ro not good enough for a thumbs up)

A sliding scale works best

with any critical judgement you want to take their info and
decide for yourself whether a movie is worth an investment of
ten dollars.

Most of the time their opinions aren't too far off the mark.

yeah because its old school however its ebert and roper now since siskal passed away quite awhile ago

if by siskel you mean roeper and you actually care what critics say then yes. Otherwise id say no.
