My foreign friend and I got into an argument over politics. She was bashing America and after months of hearing it, I finally said what I thought. I think she was offended and I am not sure where our friendship stands as I have not spoken to her since. Should I try to make amends or call my losses?

DO NOT apologize for being an American or our political system. America with all it faults its still the best country in the world that's why everybody in the world want to come here. Our government as corrupt as it may seem is by far the least corrupt of all the governments on the planet. America is the first country in the history of the world that lets its people vote and choose its the first country in history that had the ability to conquer the world and does not do it. It sounds like she was the one offending you. you should have spoken up sooner if the roles were reversed and you were in her country and poking fun of her country don't you think she would have stopped you.

buy her a one way ticket back to her 3rd world 3rd rate flea infested country

If your friendship meant that much to you then yes you should make amends. So you 2 don't see eye to eye on things, Big deal! if she is the friend you think she is she will forgive you and move on. Never talk Politics and religion with friends, family's or co-workers. Sometimes its better not to know and just left UN-said. That way your not judging them from there on out. Good luck with talking to your friend, it might be hard at first but it will past it always does.

NO.. Let her come to you, she was the one bashing your country for months!!! You had every right to go off on her.. Why should she be able to voice her opinion, but when you finally voice yours, it's alla sudden offensive, and now she's not talking to you?? If she can't take what she dishes, then she's not worth your friendship... Most people would have listened to your opinion and talked about each others discrepancies, but no, she got offended and stopped talking to you, you don't need that!!!

If I had a friend who was always bashing my country I would have a problem with that. Especially if she lives here. If she was willing to respect you and your views then you could be friends with her, but if not then you did the right thing.

Well if you want to keep your friend you should make amends.. Tell her not to bash our over ment you don't bash hers... (if you don't) But, if you do not like her views on our goverment than its her loss I suppose.

If she's bashing America and she can't take your opinion back, then it is her problem.

But you can still be friends about it. Its about discussion not arguement. If it's an arguement, then it might be differences that can't be resolved.

i would call her - tell her i miss the friendship and would like to reconnect - if possible and see what she says - then the ball is in her court

p.s. don't talk politics or religion unless you are a olitician or the clergy they are very touchy subjects

Please, make amends. If she accepts it, the friendship will strengthen. If she rejects it, you will have done your part in doing the "next right thing for the next right reason." Either way, you win. Good luck & GOD bless!
