I get mostly A's in school, I participate in activites such as varsity sports, orchestra, band, and karate, volunteer work. I also took many honors and AP courses and got high grades in those. HOWEVER, my SAT scores are terrible (in the 430-480 range) and I don't think I can get into the elite colleges
I wanted to go to with those scores. What are my alternatives?

first of all take the ACT, i did better with that one than i did with the SAT. Look at Fresno State,I have a lot of friends that go there, with a 3.0 gpa or better you only need like a 900 to get in, check out other state schools, hope this helps

SAT scores aren't everything. My friend got into Berkeley with me but she got in through her grades and looong list of extra curriculars. Her SAT score wasn't that great either. As for me, I got in with high SAT and leadership positions in a few clubs and org.s (helps with business).

You should probably work on writing a kickass essay (that helped me out too I believe cuz I'm sure the 2s on AP didn't).

I wish you all the best.

Its not the end of the world, apply anyways. Look on line and what university is a better fit for you.
You'll be attending that location for a min. of 4yrs, make it a place your comfortable, that has your field.
