made in japan and china and no they are more expensive over there....but you can buy them in bulk for retail
for the 30 gig videos its 100 = $200 each
500 = $175 each
more than 750 = $150 each
these are rough estimates excluding tax and your area and so forth

The parts art bought from japan and china and thailand and assembled in asia(or the us, I forget). Prices, however, are just as expensive in asia.
