Warts are caused by a virus. Eventually his immune system will kick in and destroy the virus and the wart will go away. Unfortunately, this is a very slow process - a year or so- partly because there is limited blood supply to the wart - so the immune fighting cells and antibodies to not get to the virus easily. It is extremely rare for a person to get warts again in the future - once immune they usually do not come back. This is assuming your boyfriend has a healthy immune system.
The doctor's office can use liquid nitrogen to freeze the wart off. This is very effective and now they are trying to come up with a way to license this stuff for over the counter use.
I don't know why duct tape works ( I loooove duct tape) but I'm wondering if it keeps the wart soft and more easily accessible to the circulatory system helping the body to destroy the wart.)

Oh my goodness I have the same problem. My next to last toe has one on it and it has been on there for about a year I have tried freezing it and everything. The other day I went to the docter about it and they had a a little box that carried toothpicks an acid. They dipped the toothpick in the acid and they they had to pick at the wart which did hurt but it only last 2 or 3 minutes and while they are picking they are trying to get the medicine to the main part of the virus. It is very white now and seems to be flaking off I have been put Compound W Bandages on it I have to wait a few more days to see if it heals but I think it is working. Try It!! Good Luck!!!

If you have tried the over the counter stuff and duct tape your next step is a doctor. Warts are caused by a virus. I had to take my son to get his professionally taken off. It was worth the money.

Try and use a banana peel. cut a piece of banana peel about the size of the wart and put it on the wart (the banana side down). Tape it on with some duct tape and replace it every 2 days.

Back in the day they used to just knife 'em out. I'm not sure that it really worked in the long term. Also, if he picks as them, make him stop. Most of my warts have gone away if I just stop irritating them.
