Oh, for God's sake people.

First of all, if you are strongly addicted, any good obgyn will tell you to cut back, NOT quit because it is too taxing on you, and then your baby.

Many women quit smoking because it makes their morning sickness worse. If it does, go ahead and quit. If you need one here and there, go ahead and take a puff. Smoking may not be good for you or your baby, but the stress you would go through is a lot worse. If anyone on here doesn't believe me, go ask an OBGYN doctor.

No, I don't have kids, and no, I haven't been pregnant. However, I have seen many pregnant women at work, including a close friend of mine, smoke because their doctors told them to cut back, not completely quit if they can't do it. Like I said .. if YOU can, great! If not, cut way back and do what you can.

I'd also like to add that 20-30-40 years ago, pregnant women smoked all the time. My mom did, and I am healthier than a lot of people I know. My stepdaughter's mother smoked occassionally, and she is literally the smartest 5 year old I have ever met. She wasn't born at a low birth weight, and I was average (7.5lbs). Am I saying that smoking is good for the baby? Hell no. What I'm saying is that you should do some research before talking about aborting a child before smoking while pregnant, or saying that she is "murdering" her unborn baby.

Congratulations on your pregnancy. It already shows that you're a caring and responsible mother. What helped me and a lot of my friends is reading up on the side effects of smoking while pregnant. A simple Yahoo search will help you a long way. Find the best one and print it out and keep it in your purse to read when you get that urge! Don't feel bad if you get the urge to smoke and you don't, your baby will be fine and won't go through withdrawls. They say that the withdrawl is for women who are farther along in their pregnancy and have smoked since day 1. Do take care and again, Congratulation!

Also, a friend of mine who smoked while she was pregnant with all of her children, has 3 kids that all have problems in school, specifically math. The babies were all born healthy and perfect. All three got ear infections around age 2-4 year old and 2 have breathing difficulties now. The doctor said it was due to smoking during pregnancy and have a second hand smoke home. It doesn't just effect birth weight, it effects the mind and the growth of the mind as they age.

Just something to think about!

Many of our parents would have smoked while pregnant as they did not realise the dangers. Many of these now grown up people are fine. But the other questions is how many people have been affected by their mother smoking while pregnant and have not answered? There has been studies done that found that many of these children do end of having asthma and other respiratory illness's. Some of these studies have been proved and some are only anecdotal. I guess what I am saying is "Is the risk to the health of your child really worth it?" If I were a smoker I would give up in a second. It maybe a good chance to give up this unhealthy habit.

Isn't the life of your baby enough for you to stop smoking immediately! Taking any sort of drug while pregnant is the most ignorant and selfish thing you could do. You had the right to damage your own body but you are pregnant now, don't murder your unborn child because that's exactly what you're doing!

Okay I quit a little over 2 months ago when I found out my wife was pregnant. (we both quit at the same time). I just took my pack of cigs and threw them away. No planning, no last cig, just threw them away.

So I ask while your reading this just throw away your cigretts...

Okay another thing that might help you quit. The addiction is only physical for the first 30 days after quiting. Just think how quickly it will pass. Now while you wait, look foward to being able to plan your baby shower, find out the sex, listen to it's heart beat. All these things will help you quit.

Now after the first 30 days the addiction you will feel is only in your head!!! So just dont let it get to you. It's not worth it!

The best thing to do is probablly try to stop smoking because its very bad for baby it can cause a premature baby or low birth weight. If you want to do what best for baby I would try smoking less and less everyday untill you can go with out. Smoking is an addiction that is hard to just throw away and sometimes if you just throw them away you can have alot of stress so you would probablly do good just making it less and less each day your body can adjust better that way. good luck and hope I helped answer your question.

it is not a good idea to smoke while u are pregnant it is bad for teh babys health and if u are getting more of a morning sickness than it is also not good for you. it is important to remmebr that what ever you do or taste or smel so does your baby. and he/she can get addicted to them as well. so it is a good idea to stop smoking and if u decide to smoke after teh baby is born, u might not wanna do it areound him/her

I was a smoker while pregnant the best thing i did was take one of my ultrasound pics and i stuck it in the side of the cigs. and every time i wanted one i would go for my cigs and see that precious unborn baby and hen i would put it down. The things that can happen to the baby while you smoke is cruel to him/her. Try your *** off you will thank yourself later.

Getting sick is nature's way of telling you that this is not the time to smoke. Don't only think of yourself, start thinking of your childs life now. You do not want a pre-mature child, or one with breathing problems?

Your cigarettes can be making your morning sickness worse. Try to stop smoking all together both for you and your baby.
