A bat that has been corked does NOT hit a ball harder or farther. It can make a bat slightly lighter, but, the same can be done by "cupping" the end of the bat.
A baseball will not travel as far when struck with a bat that has cork.."Normal" bats hit the ball a few feet further...

No they are NOT using corked bats, and no they are not cheating. They just happen to be playing really good. They've got some young talent as well as some veterans, which makes for a pretty balanced excellent team.
