Open your document in MS Word. Under the File menu Select "Save As"
In the save dialog that comes up, select Plain Text (*.txt) in the Save as file type. Name your file, and hit Save. A dialog box with some text options will pop up, but you can usually just click "OK"
You now have a text file copy of your resume.

I think you can just save it as a text document, on the drop-down file format list during "save as."

You can resave as a text file in Word, but it will lose all formatting features. You'll be better off copying and pasting the text into Notepad. It'll still lose the formatting, but you can clean it up from there before sending.

Do a "save as" and save it as ASCII text. It will not overwrite your origingal document.
