For that year you will only find re-built engines. Try your local Lincoln/Mercury dealership and they can get you one from their local engine supplier.

You could try a junk yard, but it would not be warrantied for very long. Ford/Lincol/Mercury has a 36 month, 36,000 mile warranty on their engines.

Hope this helps.......Good Luck.

A Ford 302 will drop in nicely and is one of the most widely available V8's there is. You should be able to do this for $1500, installed. Some auto parts stores even sell these engines complete, and if you salvage a few parts off the old motor and convince some friend or relative to do the work, you can save a few hundred dollars.

Now then, while that basic 302 will give you all the power you need, it can be built for speed using any number of after market parts. You are looking at double or triple the cost, though.

Of course, the Lincoln has a generously large engine compartment, and if you are not too, too worried about gas mileage (Texas! Yee Haw!) why not consider a 429/460. Properly done, you sure could teach those ricer boys a thing or two at the stop lights.
