I agree with You to a certain point. Web culture allows for abbreviations and acronyms and I don't mind those ... However, to not discriminate between to & too or There, they're and their or your and you're or site and sight or any number of other words that are pronounced similarly but spelled differently shows complete ignorance.
Unfortunately, the general awareness of these differences has become lacking. I worked at a major university for 20 yrs and the writing skills of many students fell far below what was acceptable to my sophmore high school English instructor. They certainly could not have passed my college entrance English exams.

I see where you are coming from. That is why there is an available spell check before you submit an answer or question. I would assume that people type really fast and also use what is called comp. talk. It's like quick spelling on the net to send your message faster. That system of typing is commonly used by younger internet users because it has become a sort of language. Lol, fyi. omg.....Get it?

Well, does it really matter. Will the earth implode if a period is not used on here? Will goverments topple if some uses the word "kewl" instead of "cool". No. That is why...some people do not care. Which you should not do either. You can put up your questions and answers with proper sentence structure and spelling and others can do it they way the want.

undesirable grammar got here alongside even as e mail and prompt messaging did. The acronyms were the starting up of it (brb, lol, and so on.) i imagine those grew to change into everyday because it allowed them to message one yet another immediately no matter if or not they were sluggish typers. it truly is likewise the position utilising numbers instead of letters all started. it is also really basic to apply undesirable grammar on the internet because there is distinctive casualness on-line. maximum individuals style the way they could communicate and the majority do not communicate the way they write. I agree that it is gotten ridiculous and that i'll't understand distinctive what human beings say on-line.

Could it be that there are different nationalities on here, some of which do not speak/write very good English? Some have accents and tend to write how they speak! There are, also, many young people on here, that tend to use teenage language, cut words short and so on,sometimes inventing words! However it does NOT mean they are all illiterate, maybe just relaxing? This is not a school, its a place of enjoyment and fun. Let others have their fun, without fuddy-duddy's watching their every move!!

Well I've noticed that the majority of people on here are kids. And with crappy school systems across America, they don't learn as well. Not to mention the fact that Instant Messaging and all the shortened versions of words or phrases, i.e LOL, doesn't help at all. Frankly also, some people just don't care. It's really sad and I find it really obnoxious.

I feal your pain. I asked a very similar question and actually had responses from people who were offended. It seems that education in the US has gone by the wayside and there is a culture of stupidity that has become desirable. Americans don't like to feel superior intellectually, it frightens them, so it has become passe. Look at the past elections...Al Gore, yes, not enigmatic is a brilliant man. GW...well...yeah.

I do not know. They could at least take advantage of the spell checker. I think people care more about getting two points than they do about spelling properly, being grammatically correct, or making sense.

It bothers me as well. Unfortunately, we're dealing with the lowest common denominator here; what I mean is, a public forum like this invites loonies and dummies as well as those who have advanced degrees. I do think, however, that the loonies and dummies might wish to make a greater effort to answer questions more geared to their way of thinking, if they must answer at all.
