When you first sprained your foot it was good to use cold compresses and elevate it. Depending on the swelling or the coloration of the foot I would advise unless you have seen a doctor not to use anything hot. You could have fractured it. Yes, you could around the joints this is some one who works in the health care field tell you this. Get it checked out and stay off it until you do or if you had it checked out and that's what you were told it was a sprain then only thing that will help is elevation and time. Ibuprofen for pain and swelling.

if its a sprain, its better to put ice on it. Depends on the swelling however. Another thing you can do to alleviate the pain and inflammation is to put Epsom Salts( about 2.00$ for a huge box) in some cold water and let your foot soak in it for about 30-40 min. it will bring down the swelling, and take the sting out.
Be sure to re-wrap the foot with an ace bandage fairly tightly after you soak or ice the area. This will also improve the healing time.

You should use the RICE method. You should Rest for 24 hours, Ice it on and off every 20 minutes for 1-3 days, Compress it by using an elastic bandage, and Elevate it 6 inches off the ground with a pillow. Also taking acetominophen, ibuprofen, or aspirin will help.

Ice works the best...it will help bring the swelling down. Also try and stay off of it for a few days..give it time to start healing..if you must weight bear on it then you need to use an ankle support that you can get in any pharmacy...unless you already have it from visiting the local ER

ice for the first 24 hours after injury will reduce pain and swelling....heat thereafter will treat the problems. Also, elevate your foot above your heart to reduce swelling and stop the throbbing pain if you have that. Good luck. Stay off of it as much as possible.

ice it initially. then after about a week of icing when the swelling has gone down, you can alternate ice and heat, which may make it feel better.

you may desire to help this joint till it is thoroughly healed. Icing will help too. those issues do no longer heal in one day. A wreck oftentimes heals speedier than a sprain. I bear in mind mine taking 3-5 months to heal. No relaxing.
