The answer depends on your definition of "quick". If you mean immediately, then resod the lawn...pricey, but quick. If you mean through more conventional means, it's the old standbys of watering and fertilizing. If you are currently in an area where the weather is unusually hot (as I am here in IL), then watering is about the only option, unfortunately, as grass tends to go dormant in severe heat.
Of course, there's always Astroturf...or green spray paint! LOL

The best and inexpensive way is to use Sulfate of Amonia or Amonium Sulfate. Spread evenly on lawn, water in really well. In about a week, va la! Rich green. The key is watering right after you put it on and water it in well.

There is no quick fix, if its completely dead you may have to re sod. Remember the best time to water your grass is when the the sun goes down or very early in the morning otherwise if you water during the day you will burn the roots and kill the grass.

i suggest using water and then when the grass grows high dont cut it as short, that way you still have a green look and not so much brown
